Use of electrical stimulation for accelerated orthodontics in humans: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

The main objective of this systematic review is to comprehensively evaluate all the relevant studies to evaluate the effectiveness of electrical stimulation to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement in human patients. Using a suitable search strategy, various databases like PubMed, CENTRAL, Scopus and Google Scholar were surveyed for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs); after which a hand search of related orthodontic journals was completed. The risk of bias of studies was checked using Cochrane's ROB-2 tool. The quality of evidence of the included studies was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) framework. Rate of orthodontic tooth movement was compared and thus efficiency of electrical stimulation to accelerate tooth movement was assessed. Meta-analysis was done on 2 studies out of the 4; rate of orthodontic tooth movement was compared at two time periods after start of treatment (3rd month and 5th month) with standardized mean difference (SMD) as summary estimate, with p < 0.05 denoting statistical significance. Publication bias was checked using a funnel plot. Via exploration of the online databases and hand searching,1080 studies were found after removing duplicates. After full text assessment, 13 studies in total were selected that used electrical stimulation, out of which 4 studies were included in the qualitative analysis as they met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis was done for 3rd month and 5th month with SMD as 0.69(-1.26-0.12) and 1.64(-3.44-0.16), respectively. The strength of evidence in the meta-analysis is moderate. There was no publication bias as shown by funnel plot. The studies included showed increased risk of selection and performance bias. Also due to the limited number of studies available, there was difficulty in reaching definitive conclusions. The meta-analysis showed a significant difference among the control and experimental group for the 3rd month. Even though a positive correlation is found between electrical stimulation and acceleration of orthodontic tooth movement, it is advised to conduct further studies, particularly with human participants, to establish a more conclusive outcome. This review has received no funding. The protocol for the study was registered in the Prospective Registration of Systematic Review (PROSPERO)(CRD42023495077).

The Correlation between the Bone Morphotype and Density and Root Apical Resorption of the Anterior Teeth Due to Orthodontic Forces

The potential side effects of modern orthodontic treatment and its unfavorable impact on dentition and hard tissues have been extensively discussed in professional literature for decades. The presence of uncontrolled forces can result in pulp necrosis, radicular reabsorption, and/or loss of alveolar bone. Dehiscence and fenestration are more commonly found in anterior than posterior teeth, where only the periodontal ligament and the mucosa protect the dental root.&#x0D; Most studies investigating the effect of periodontal phenotype over gingival recession in orthodontic patients have primarily focused on examining the soft tissues. However, due to the vulnerability of thin alveolar bone, the previous evaluation of orthodontic candidate patients may also include the analysis of hard tissues. Bone density plays an important role in facilitating orthodontic tooth movement, such that reductions in bone density can significantly increase movement velocity. These types of localized density changes can affect the rate of orthodontic tooth movement and may also influence the risk of unwanted outcomes, such as the occurrence of dental external apical root resorption.&#x0D; According to the literature, the links of root resorption with the bone morphotype and the density are relevant in clinical dentistry but have not been studied in detail. However, the existing data is not yet conclusive.

Prostaglandin in Enhancing Orthodontic Tooth Movement: A Scoping Review

The review aims to find and summarise scientific evidence suggesting that the use of prostaglandins improves orthodontic tooth movement. Four electronic databases were chosen: PubMed (US National Library of Medicine, USA), Scopus, EBSCO, and ProQuest. The databases were chosen to be comprehensive and to span a wide range of fields. There is no year limit. The languages of English and Bahasa Indonesia were considered, and the subject or type was entered into the database search. Two independent reviewers extracted the data and assessed the study's quality. The 661 initial data were identified from 4 electronic databases, of which 5 made up the final data. Healthy human and animal patients underwent active orthodontic treatment with fixed orthodontic equipment. Local or systemic biologic drugs (prostaglandins) are employed to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement.\. The results revealed that prostaglandins can enhance the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. There are two methods to enhance orthodontic tooth movement using prostaglandin. First, using PGE2 injection with the dosage of 0.1g - 1.0g showed effectiveness. Second, using peroral with an optimum dose of 10-25g/kg/day.

Evaluation of Micro-Osteoperforations in Expediting Orthodontic Tooth Movement in Adult Patients.

Orthodontic tooth movement, the process of aligning teeth, can often be time-consuming, particularly in adult patients. Micro-osteoperforations (MOPs) have emerged as a potential technique to accelerate this process. A sample of 30 adult patients undergoing orthodontic treatment was selected. The patients were divided into two groups: an experimental group (EG) receiving MOPs and a control group (CG) without MOPs. Standard orthodontic treatment was administered to both groups. The rate of tooth movement was measured using digital models and recorded in millimeters per month. Pain levels reported by patients were also noted. The data were analyzed using basic statistical methods. The EG demonstrated a significantly higher rate of orthodontic tooth movement compared to the CG. The average rate of tooth movement in the EG was 1.5 millimeters per month, while the CG exhibited an average rate of 0.8 millimeters per month. Additionally, pain levels reported by patients in the EG were slightly elevated immediately after MOPs but subsided within a few days. The findings of this study suggest that MOPs can effectively expedite orthodontic tooth movement in adult patients.

Comparing the Efficacy of Different Archwire Materials in Accelerating Orthodontic Tooth Movement.

Orthodontic treatment is commonly used to correct misaligned teeth and improve dental aesthetics and function. Archwires play a crucial role in this treatment by exerting forces on teeth, prompting them to shift into desired positions. For this experimental study, 60 participants requiring orthodontic treatment were selected and divided into three groups: Group A, treated with stainless steel archwires; Group B, treated with nickel-titanium archwires; and Group C, treated with beta-titanium archwires. Standardized orthodontic procedures were followed for all participants. The rate of tooth movement was measured over a period of 6 months using digital models and a calibrated measurement technique. The study revealed notable differences in the rate of orthodontic tooth movement among the three groups. Group B (nickel-titanium archwires) demonstrated the highest mean rate of tooth movement, with an average of 1.5 mm per month. Group A (stainless steel archwires) exhibited a mean rate of 1.2 mm per month, while Group C (beta-titanium archwires) showed the lowest mean rate at 0.9 mm per month. In conclusion, this study highlights the varying efficacy of different archwire materials in accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. Nickel-titanium archwires exhibited the highest rate of tooth movement compared to stainless steel and beta-titanium archwires.

Role of 1,25 Dihydroxycholecalciferol on the Rate of Orthodontic Tooth Movement- A Systematic Review

BACKGROUND: 1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol, the active form of vitamin D3 is known to play an important role in mineralization. Vitamin D3 is also known to have immune-supporting properties by regulating various cytokines and cell signalling pathways. AIM: To review the role of 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) on the rate of Orthodontic tooth movement. METHODS: This study applied a systematic review to analyse the current literature to define and summarise the role of I,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol on the rate of Orthodontic tooth movement. A comprehensive search was done using electronic databases such as PubMed Central, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Google Scholar, EMBASE and direct web search. The title scan was done to identify relevant articles which are further evaluated for inclusion by reading the abstract. RESULTS: The electronic database search identified 28 articles. 3 articles were selected based on the selection criteria to meet the research question. There was about 60% faster rate of orthodontic tooth movement when a dosage of 40-50 pg/dl of 1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol was supplemented. Administration of 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol showed no deleterious effects to the tooth roots or the surrounding tissues as evidenced from the periapical radiographs and CBCT.  CONCLUSION: Based on the collected data, the local administration of an active form of Vitamin D3, 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol can act as an effective supplement to accelerate Orthodontic Tooth  Movement (OTM).

[Experimental study of subcutaneous adipose-derived stem cells inhibiting orthodontic root resorption].

To investigate the effect of human subcutaneous adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) local transplantation on orthodontically induced root resorption (OIRR) and provide theoretical and experimental basis for the clinical application of hADSCs to inhibit OIRR. Forty 8-week-old male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 20 rats in each group, to establish the first molar mesial orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) model of rat right maxillary. The rats in the experimental group were injected with 25 μL of cell suspension containing 2.5×10 5 hADSCs on the 1st, 4th, 8th, and 12th day of modeling, while the rats in the control group were injected with 25 μL of PBS. The rat maxillary models were obtained before and after 7 and 14 days of force application, and 10 rats in each group were killed and sampled after 7 and 14 days of force application. The OTM distance was measured by stereomicroscope, the root morphology of the pressure side was observed by scanning electron microscope and the root resorption area ratio was measured. The root resorption and periodontal tissue remodeling of the pressure side were observed by HE staining and the root resorption index was calculated. The number of cementoclast and osteoclast in the periodontal tissue on the pressure side was counted by tartrate resistant acid phosphatase staining. The TOM distance of both groups increased with the extension of the force application time, and there was no significant difference ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in OTM distance between the experimental group and the control group after 7 and 14 days of force application ( P>0.05). Scanning electron microscope observation showed that small and shallow scattered resorption lacunae were observed on the root surface of the experimental group and the control group after 7 days of force application, and there was no significant difference in the root resorption area ratio between the two groups ( P>0.05); after 14 days of application, the root resorption lacunae deepened and became larger in both groups, and the root resorption area ratio in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group ( P<0.05). The range and depth of root absorption in the experimental group were smaller and shallower than those in the control group, and the root absorption index in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group after 14 days of force application ( P<0.05). The number of cementoclast in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group after 7 and 14 days of force application ( P<0.05); the number of osteoclasts in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group after 14 days of force application ( P<0.05). Local transplantation of hADSCs may reduce the area and depth of root resorption by reducing the number of cementoclasts and osteoclasts during OTM in rats, thereby inhibiting orthodontic-derived root resorption.

Impact of occlusal contact pattern on dental stability and oromandibular system after orthodontic tooth movement in rats

How to ensure dental stability in new positions and reduce the likelihood of relapse is a major clinical concern in the orthodontic field. Occlusal contacts between arches may affect the transmission of masticatory forces, thereby influencing the biological response of the periodontal and the oromandibular system. Occlusion factors that may influence the stability after orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) remain largely unknown. Hence, this research was conducted in order to investigate the influence of different occlusal contact patterns on tooth stability and oromandibular system including the masseter muscle and the temporomandibular joint following OTM. By modifying the occlusal surfaces, in vivo animal study models with distinct occlusal patterns corresponding to clinical circumstances were established. The relapse distance of teeth and the level of inflammatory factors in the gingival cervical fluid were analyzed. We also closely observed the histological remodeling of periodontal tissue, masseter tissue, and joint tissue after one week of relapse. Moreover, genes expression in the alveolar bone was analyzed to illustrate the potential biological mechanisms of relapse under the influence of different occlusal contact patterns following OTM. Different occlusal contact patterns after OTM in rats were established. The intercuspation contact between cusp and fossa group exhibited the lowest level of relapse movement, inflammatory factors and osteoclast activity (P < 0.05). On the other hand, groups with interferences or inadequate contacts exhibited more relapse movement, and tend to promote inflammation of periodontal tissue and activate bone resorption (P < 0.05). Adequate occlusal contacts without interference may enhance tooth stability and reduce the likelihood of relapse. After active orthodontic treatment, necessary occlusal adjustment should be made to achieve the desired intercuspation contact relationship and ensure adequate contact between the arches. The elimination of occlusal interferences is crucial to achieving optimal stability and promoting overall healthy condition of the oromandibular system.

Satisfaction with Duration of Orthodontic Treatment, Knowledge and Perception of Accelerated Orthodontics by Nigerian Dental Practitioners: A Questionnaire Study

Background: The duration of orthodontic treatment with its attendant complications has been a subject of concern in the specialty of orthodontics, necessitating the need to quicken the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. Despite the growing acceptance of accelerated orthodontics, there is paucity of related information from Nigeria.&#x0D; Aim: To assess the satisfaction of Nigerian dental practitioners with the duration of orthodontic treatment and their knowledge and perception of accelerated orthodontics.&#x0D; Materials and Methods: Both electronic and physical survey was conducted among Nigerian dental practitioners between January and June 2023 involving both those in Government employment and private practice. The questionnaire contained questions on satisfaction with duration of orthodontic treatment, knowledge and perception of accelerated orthodontics. The data was analysed using the IBM SPSS version 25. In addition to the descriptive statistics, the Chi-square statistics was used to test the hypotheses with the significance level set at P &lt; .05.&#x0D; Results: The response rate was 50%. The participants gave significant differences in their levels of satisfaction with the duration of orthodontic treatment but only 42.4% of them were satisfied. Some knowledge-deficit of accelerated orthodontics was observed among the participants with significantly correct responses in only four out the seven methods assessed (P &lt; .05), while their positive perception of accelerated orthodontics was generally significant (P &lt; .05).&#x0D; Conclusion: The participants were not significantly satisfied with the duration of orthodontic treatment; had knowledge-deficit of the methods of accelerated orthodontics but significant positive perception.

The role ovariectomies and/or the administration of artificial female sex hormones play in orthodontic tooth movement: A systematic review.

The objective was to assess how ovariectomy or the administration of artificial female sex hormones affects orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) with fixed appliances. An electronic search of indexed databases was completed without language or time restrictions up to June 2022. The following eligibility criteria were utilized: (i) prospective original controlled clinical studies; (ii) experimental studies on animal models; (iii) subjects undergoing orthodontic therapy with fixed appliances; (iv) clearly defined control groups not undergoing ovariectomy or administration of artificial female sex hormone; and (v) studies with experimental groups receiving the intervention of interest (ovariectomy or artificial female sex hormone administration). Review articles, letters to the editor, case reports, case series, commentaries, cross-sectional studies, retrospective studies, and studies with no well-defined control group were excluded. The quality of the available evidence and the risk of bias within the studies were assessed. All disagreements were resolved via discussion. Seven animal studies were included in the systematic review. Five studies reported that ovariectomy increased the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. Two studies reported that the administration of artificial female sex hormones decreased the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. There is an association between ovariectomies and OTM and between the administration of artificial female sex hormones and OTM. The full extent of the association remains unclear due to the biases that are present and the length of time of orthodontic therapy.

Orthodontic tooth movement through regenerative sites: A 25-year systematic review

This systematic review aimed to investigate the efficacy of orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) through bone regenerated with osteoconductive grafts, together with the risk of root resorption (RR), in relation to the material and the timing of force initiation. Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, three major electronic databases were searched (PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane). Only studies which reported on the primary outcome (OTM rate) were included. Investigations with fewer than 3 participants/groups and an absence of controls were excluded. The final sample consisted of 16 randomized and controlled clinical trials. Among them, 9 reported on RR (the secondary outcome). The articles showed substantial heterogeneity and low-moderate quality. Most studied OTM through alloplasts (7) and xenografts (8), 3 addressed allografts, 3 autografts and 6 analyzed 2 grafts. Timing for force initiation varied from 0 to 13 weeks post-grafting. Based on limited evidence, it can be cautiously concluded that most graft materials have either no impact or slightly impair OTM, with no significant increase in RR. Xenografts might impede OTM and increase RR risk. The optimal timing for force application depends on the state of bone healing. Future studies are mandatory for deciding on the ideal graft and timing for optimal OTM in each clinical setup.

How Effective Are Non-Frictional Techniques Compared to Sliding Techniques in the Retraction of Upper Anterior Teeth When Using Buccal Fixed-Appliance Therapy? A Systematic Review

Methods for retracting the anterior teeth are divided into frictional methods and non-frictional methods. However, evidence regarding the superiority of one technique over the other is still lacking in the available literature. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the current evidence regarding the effectiveness of frictional methods of anterior teeth retraction compared to the non-frictional ones. The extracted data included the mechanism of application of the retraction force and its intensity, the observation period, follow-up records, and outcome measures. Ten studies were included in this review; the results did not favor a specific technique regarding the rate of orthodontic tooth movement and loss of anchorage during canine retraction, although a preference was shown for the sliding technique in the rate of en-masse retraction (0.74 versus 0.39 mm/month) and the anchorage control during the retraction of the incisors (0.5 versus 0.1 mm/month). The control of the incisor’s torque during the en-masse retraction was higher when frictionless techniques were used (−12° versus −7°). Regarding the rate of orthodontic tooth movement, the non-frictional technique is characterized by a high sensitivity to the quality of the design, and the sliding technique was generally effective. As for controlling the torque of the incisors, the preference is for the non-frictional technique. Overall, there is a need to conduct more studies with an appropriate design.

The onset of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase activity on orthodontic tooth movement in rats with type 2 diabetes.

Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) plays pivotal roles in metabolic diseases including type 2 diabetes. However, the specific role of AMPK for orthodontic tooth movement in type 2 diabetes is unclear. In this study, a diabetic rat model was established through dietary manipulation and streptozocin injection. Examinations were conducted to select qualified type 2 diabetic rats. Then, an orthodontic device was applied to these rats for 0, 3, 7, or 14 days. The distance of orthodontic tooth movement and parameters of alveolar bone were analyzed by micro-computed tomography. Periodontal osteoclastic activity, inflammatory status, and AMPK activity were measured via histological analyses. Next, we repeated the establishment of diabetic rats to investigate whether change of AMPK activity was associated with orthodontic tooth movement under type 2 diabetes. The results showed that diabetic rats exhibited an exacerbated alveolar bone resorption, overactive inflammation, and decreased periodontal AMPK activity during orthodontic tooth movement. Injection of the AMPK agonist alleviated type 2 diabetes-induced periodontal inflammation and alveolar bone resorption, thus normalizing distance of orthodontic tooth movement. Our study indicates that type 2 diabetes decreases periodontal AMPK activity, leading to excessive inflammation elevating osteoclast formation and alveolar bone resorption, which could be reversed by AMPK activation.

This response, in turn, coordinates the processes of bone resorption and formation. Through an extensive review of the existing literature on the biology of OTM, it becomes evident that macrophages play a pivotal role in all stages of the process. Furthermore, researchers have identified various emerging drugs and biological agents that target the behavior of macrophages, aiming to regulate and control the rate of OTM. To date, most studies have primarily focused on investigating the effects of anti-inflammatory drugs on the rate of OTM and elucidating their specific mechanisms. However, there is a notable absence of reports specifically addressing drugs capable of accelerating tooth movement. Nonetheless, in other fields, such as the promotion of fracture healing, techniques for modulating macrophage function using bio-scaffolds or sustained-release formulations loaded with cytokines or drugs have demonstrated significant advancements. Thus, these techniques hold promise as important avenues for future research and development, exploring the potential of macrophages in regulating the rate of OTM.

Effect of 125 Hz and 150 Hz vibrational frequency electric toothbrushes on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement and prostaglandin E2 levels.

To evaluate the effects of an electric toothbrush with vibrational frequencies of 125 Hz and 150 Hz on the orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) rate and the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Out of thirty patients (aged 18-25 years; 16 females and 14 males), ten patients each formed Group A and B, who used electric toothbrushes with 125 Hz and 150 Hz vibrations, respectively. The remaining ten patients (Group C) served as the control group and did not use electric toothbrushes. The rate of OTM and levels of PGE2 using microcapillary pipettes were calculated before the start of retraction (T0), on the 30th day (T1), on the 60th day (T2), and on the 90th day (T3) from the start of retraction in all the groups. There was a statistically significant difference in the mean OTM values and PGE2 levels in all three groups at different time intervals, with the maximum difference seen in Group B compared to Group A and least in Group C at T1, T2 and T3. The rate of OTM and levels of PGE2 were highest in patients who used an electric toothbrush with 150 Hz mechanical vibration compared to those who used an electric toothbrush with 125 Hz mechanical vibration and least in patients who did not use an electric toothbrush. Mechanical vibration led to an increase in the PGE2 levels and accelerated the OTM.

Effect of applying intermittent force with and without vibration on orthodontic tooth movement.

This study aimed to determine whether orthodontic tooth movement could be accelerated by applying an intermittent force protocol. It also examined the effect of applying additional vibrational forces on orthodontic tooth movement and root resorption rates. This study included 24patients (16males and 8females) who underwent orthodontic treatment involving first premolar extraction and distal movement of the canines in the maxilla.A Hycon device (Adenta GmbH, Gilching, Germany) was used for canine distalization in all patients. The patients were randomly divided into two groups: one group received 20 min of vibration per day using the AcceleDent device (OrthoAccel Technologies, Inc., Bellaire, TX, USA), while the other group received no vibration. In addition, asplit-mouth design was used: an activation-only force protocol was applied on one side, and an intermittent activation-deactivation-activation (ADA) protocol was applied on the other. The duration required for complete canine tooth distalization on each side was calculated. In addition, the effect of vibration on the orthodontically induced root resorption was examined. The intermittent ADA protocol significantly accelerated orthodontic tooth movement compared to the activation-only protocol (p < 0.05). The application of additional vibration did not affect the orthodontic tooth movement rate (p > 0.05). Using aHycon device and following an ADA protocol provided significantly faster canine distalization than the activation-only protocol (p < 0.05). This intermittent force method proved very effective in closing the spaces. However, vibration did not significantly affect the orthodontic tooth movement rate (p > 0.05).

Impact of Bone-Grafting Materials on the Rate of Orthodontic Tooth Movement: A Systematic Review.

Orthodontists may encounter patients with alveolar bony defects, which are often treated with various bone-grafting materials. The effects of different bone-grafting materials on orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) are of concern to orthodontists. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the current status of the literature that reports on the effects of different bone-grafting materials on OTM in terms of the rate and side effects. An electronic search of the PubMed and Scopus databasesand Google Scholar was performed. Two reviewers independently conducted the screening process using COVIDENCE™, and a third reviewer resolved any conflicts. SYRCLE's (Systematic Review Centre for Laboratory Animal Experimentation's) risk-of-bias tool for animal studies was utilized to assess the quality of the included studies. Out of 457 initial titles, 11 studies were finally included for data extraction. All of the included studies were animal experiments, and none of them were considered to have a low risk of bias. The included studies had varied results. However, a general tendency existed, whereby OTM in surgically treated areas with no bone grafting presented the highest OTM rate. In cases where a bone graft was used, xenografts revealed the highest OTM rate, followed by alloplasts. Lastly, the use of allografts resulted in the slowest OTM rates. The most common side effect was root resorption. In conclusion, there is a lack of high-quality evidence regarding the effects of bone-grafting materials on OTM rate. Due to the lack of human subjects, RCTs, and the heterogeneity of subjects in the current literature, the impact of bone-grafting materials on OTM deserves further investigations using more rigorous scientific methodologies.

Evaluation of the Difference in the Rate of Canine Retraction Assisted by Piezocision and Discission in Human Subjects: A Preliminary Parallel-Arm Prospective Clinical Study.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the rate of orthodontic tooth movement assisted by piezocision and discission in extraction cases. Twelve adults (20-35 years) requiring upper premolar extraction for orthodontic treatment were included in this preliminary parallel-arm clinical study. Participants (randomly allocated) in Groups A and B received piezocision and discision-assisted corticotomy cuts at the premolar extraction site, respectively, contralateral side served as the control. Canine retraction was started bilaterally using closed coil NiTi (Nickel titanium) springs. A schedule of fortnightly activation was followed for 3 months. Stage models were made monthly (M0, M1, M2, M3). Models were scanned using a 3-shape intraoral scanner, and the displacement of the canine was measured bilaterally in the stage models. A self-designed questionnaire was used to assess patients pain and satisfaction levels on a visual analogue scale. The rate of canine retraction at the piezocision site was twice that at the control site in group A (p=0.007). The rate of canine retraction at the dissection site was twice that at the control site in group B (p=0.012). However, there was no significant difference in the rate of retraction between the two surgical techniques. Pain and disturbance were noticed in the discission group at 50 and 67% respectively. Discision is comparable to piezocision for accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. Although dissection can speed orthodontic treatment, it should be used with caution as it could pose technical and clinical difficulties, particularly in the posterior buccal region of the oral cavity.
